Co-founders Lisl Meredith Huebner, Dipl.CH and John Odlum, LMT are committed to assisting others on their journey of self-enlightenment through the wisdom of the plants and trees.

Certification Courses are offered regularly on a wide range of subjects such as Auriculotherapy, Herbology, Medicinal Aromatherapy and Quantum Touch™. Weather permitting, plant Identification tours (or “Weed Walks”) are regularly offered to introduce you to your local population of edible and medicinal plant allies. Learn through direct experience how using herbs and essences can harmonize every aspect of your life and bring you closer to your True Path.
Our Herbology 101 class balances academic learning with hands-on experience while maintaining a strong emphasis on the Spiritual side of Plant Medicine. Subjects range from wild-crafting medicinal herbs to making medicine, Chinese diagnostic methods to treating common ailments, planning an herb garden to creating a home apothecary. From beginner to advanced herbalists, there's something for everyone.
The incredibly popular Wisdom of the Earth Medicinal Aromatherapy Level I Certification Course is being offered several times throughout the year due to the overflowing interest we've received. Everyone who has taken this course has declared it to be a Life-Transforming experience that entirely reshapes their perception of the world. Holistic Therapies In this safe and comfortable environment, clients may choose to receive Massage Therapy, Acupressure, or Quantum Touch™ using exquisite and precious medicinal-grade tree and plant essences. John and Lisl counsel their clients on which essential oils to incorporate into their personal healing regimen and how their potent characteristics can help to heal the body, mind and spirit. Hot stone therapy is available to soothe and warm tired and sore muscles after hard work or exercise and the use of crystals and precious stones carefully aligned on the body help to balance the chakras. Alluring fragrances envelop guests throughout their visit bringing lasting peace and tranquility to the rest of their day. Extensive arrays of these precious essences are available, allowing the experience to be brought home.
Careful palpation of the pulse and extensive consultation brings clients to the very core of their health concerns. Wise counsel can help to clarify neglected areas of the self and illuminate loving ways to restore personal harmony. Traditional Chinese herbal formulas in convenient tablet or capsule form are prescribed to balance the body and delicious selections of custom blended teas are available to maintain optimal health, vitality and wellbeing. Auriculotherapy, a method of ear reflexology that requires no needles, can provide days of pain relief, inner calm and focus or regulate metabolism. The effect of Auriculotherapy on migraine headaches is astonishing; medicinal aromatherapy and herbal counsel can help patients rid themselves of these headaches completely over time. Balanced dietary wisdom is also a part of our holistic approach to healing; specific recommendations for all types of ailments or health concerns are made based on individual constitution.
Ceremonies Medicine Wheel meditations and ceremonies are available to open channels of receiving through true gratitude and acknowledgement of the natural elemental forces that surround us. Based on ancient native practices, a medicine wheel is a stone configuration built for the purpose of ritual and ceremony. The medicine wheel provides a metaphor for the personal passage we each must take on our life’s path. It is customary to offer tobacco and cornmeal to the earth or a personal item such as a special stone or shell to exchange in gratitude for the prayers that are offered up.
Youth Programs
Home-schooled children, campers and youth groups have found enjoyable kid-oriented activities and workshops designed for them at The Essence of Being. Summer Camp programs have made our mountain top center a special destination for field trips that teach plant identification, crafting topical natural medicines, Medicine Wheel ceremonies and Plant Spirit Medicine. Activities are planned that stimulate creativity such as storytelling and play-acting, musical expression with Tibetan singing bowls and exotic percussion instruments, and experiencing the textures and fragrances of herbal remedies and aromatherapy.
